The 2nd Santorini Experience returns on October 2016
Following the success of the 1st Santorini Experience that took place last year, the Municipality of Santorini together with Santorini’s Municipal Sports Cultural & Environmental Organization (DAPPOS) and Active Media decided to organize the 2nd Santorini Experience on 7 – 9, October 2016 . Professional and amateur athletes will have the opportunity to compete on running and open water swimming. There are going to be 3 different level of running routes from 5km (3.1miles), 10km (6.2 miles), and 15km (9.3 miles). The common characteristic of all running routes apart the fact of their start point is going to be in Oia (where Esperas Hotel is located) the athletes will run along the breathtaking view of the caldera. This year’s routes have been designed by the former marathon runner and holder of Greek best performance, Nikos Polias. More information about 2016 routes you may find here.
Regarding the swimming challenge, the swimming route will be in total 2,4km (1.5 mile) and athletes will start from the Volcano’s Harbor to the Old Port in Fira. The swimming route has been designed by the Federal Technical coach of Swimming, with Olympic and World medals in open water swimming Nikos Gemelos. Well-known and recognized open water athletes like Spyros Gianniotis, Kelly Araouzou, Antonis Fokaidis, Giorgos Arniakos and Dimitris Negris will participate in this year’s Santorini Experience.
The Santorini Experience challenge will receive an extensive media coverage by Fox Sports through the broadcasting of its documentary to three continents and more than 40 million households.
